Pat's Verses...

"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!"
-Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV)

-There are three words in this passage that grab me the most; "he humbled himself."  Whenever I think my ego's going on too much of a high, and I realize that I need to humble myself, this is the passage I look at.  What excuse do I have, if God did it, not to humble myself?  What have I done that's worth even the slightest inkling of pride?  He made himself nothing by becoming human!  That should tell us something - we are nothing in comparison to God.

"Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart."

- 2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)

- To me this verse sums up Fire and Rain. It says it all right there. It was over the summer when I felt God was telling me to start up a group dedicated to Christ in my high school. As it turns out, my best friend Nick was having ideas about the same thing. I talked to others in my youth group about it and they loved the idea. Yup, the Lord was working. So then at See You At The Pole (an international event where students meet around their flag poles to pray) came around and every one from other churches loved the idea, and we prayed about it. The Lord provided everything we needed to meet after school every Tuesday and Friday. During a bible study, I noticed this verse, and it stuck in my mind. 'That's exactly what this new group is,' I thought. We have to drop our sins and run on goodness in Christ's name. We are not capable of doing this perfectly, but it becomes a whole lot easier with true Christian friends.
