Chapter 10 /Wandering Rocks -An approach: In theory the best approach to Wandering Rocks is to read with a good map of Dublin handy but in actual fact the only thing that you will discover from this is that Joyce wrote this with flawless accuracy and that the street where the Freeman Journal had its office is lined with pubs. Each short scene has one or more interruption. The interruptions may or may not be simultaneous with the scene that they interrupt. (Some are not temporally fixed.) There are traps scattered for the reader throughout. Some will not be apparent without research and there are probably more traps than can now be identified. All of the interruptions have a relevance to the scene that they interrupt and the connections can be so subtle as to be a puzzle to many eminent students. In WR J serves notice on the reader that this will be a very difficult book but it is also true - at least I think so - that the book becomes funnier from this point on. WR is certainly behind all its complexity a light-hearted excursion. Stephen and Bloom are acquainted although Stephen may not remember Bloom. This is al cleared up in the Ithaca chapter. Best Bob p.s: I forgot to mention that Stephen and Bloom are acquainted although Stephen may not remember Bloom. This is al cleared up in the Ithaca chapter.
