Chapter 18 / PENELOPE - That is it!: Hello all! That is it! Just finished reading Ulysses. It was a remarkable journey for me - not just in the literary sense - to read this book. Took me almost one year. The first message on Ulysses in my mail box is dated 25 Jan 2000. I had thought of saying something more about Ithaca, and then about Penelope. But what can one say after all about such grand writing. So I withdraw for the time being. Want to read next 'Nora' and find a book on Joyce. Any suggestions there will be most welcome. Want to restart Dubliners. Hope to keep an eye open for the puzzle that Bob has deciphered. Some day, I will read Finnegan's Wake. Don't feel that I am ready yet to start it now. I hope that some of you will still be around, whenever I come back. Meanwhile thanks a million to all of you, to some of you - like Bob- in particular, for making this reading a beautiful experience. Wish you all a very nice Christmas! May 2001 be as enriching as 2000!! Chandra 20.12.2000
Congratulations Chandra, for finishing the marathon. Some of us lurkers are still hanging on! By the way, one of the best renditions of Penelope is done by the actress Fiona Flanagan in a video called "Joyces Women". I am waiting or the day when someone will help me discover some of the ten references to Swahili in FW that Joseph Campbell once referred to. Any suggestions, Bob & Judy? Rasik Shah HOME! |
