Thoughts on "The Little Bighorn Campaign, March-Sept. 1876"
While many experienced "buffs" have commented favorably on my book, I think it's an especially useful work
for the reader who may be approaching the subject of Custer's last fight for the first time, not least because it
puts the Battle of the Little Bighorn in the context of a broader campaign. The magazine-type "sidebar" format
characteristic of the "Great Campaigns" series is particularly useful when addressing the tactics, weapons,
objectives, and viewpoints of two very different forces -- the frontier Regular Army and the Sioux and Cheyenne
bands resisting the reservation system.

I would strongly recommend Wayne Sarf's book to anyone wishing to learn about the Battle of the Little Big
Horn. Although numerous titles have been published delving deep into narrow and murky corners of that famous
event, they are best approached by readers who already have a firm grounding into the who's and what's of the
battle, and this is the book which provides that fundamental knowledge. Wayne Sarf's conclusions about
controversial matters are both well-considered and reasonable.
