Different?

When we fall in love with someone we often think we
know a lot about them.   As time passes and we go
through more experiences with that person, sometimes
we end up feeling like we have been deceived...that the
person has been putting one over on us.   Perhaps they
were, and perhaps they have just changed with time and
experiences.   This is a poem about that sort of thing
that happened with me, giving me great disappointment
when the person I loved so much just changed out
of nowhere.

She'd often wished that she could be
Like others before her that she
Had heard about that mesmerised me.
I thought she was different.
Many of them were beautiful
And of themselves they too were full,
Which made them quite unbearable.
I thought she was different.
And also many had no shame,
And callously they caused me pain.
I never wanted that again.
I thought she was different.
As well there were lies, and deceit,
As with my heart with ease they'd cheat,
Justifications were ever so neat.
I thought she was different.
When times were good, fine, but when the tests
Came as they do, their strengths were stressed;
Integrity far less than best.
I thought she was different.
With all of them good times were had.
With most of them some things turned bad.
Lack of consistency made me sad.
I thought she was different.
She'd often wished that she could be
Like others before her that she
Had heard about that mesmerised me.
So much for her being different....
