God chose his favorite angel
And sent her down to earth
And like his son she was born
Of a simple, humble birth.
She was raised in the fields of cotton
Brothers and sisters she had three
And the first blow of life came to her
When her dad left the family.
She never held hate or malice
Her laugh was like a tinkling bell
And when her innocent eyes looked up at you
You knew nothing but love in her dwell.
Then God picked a boy from this earthland
To cherish and watch over his child
So no one could harm or tempt her
And happiness was his for a while.
God sent this angel to us
As a sign of his love and care
To let us know there's something better
After we climb the golden stair.
He wanted to show us through Pat
That love can shine in the deepest dispair
And that love and faith is our Father.
Then when her job was completed
With the conceived child of this lad
He called her back to Heaven.
