The one I cherished through the day.

I look to the doorway but he is not there
I see at my table his empty chair.
I look at his slippers 'neath the bed
And at the pillow where he laid his head.

I love to have him comfort me
To let me sit upon his knee.
To hold me in his arms so true
And whisper, "My dear, I love you."

How well I know there'll never be
One who will ever mean as much to me.
And so I close my eyes and pray
That I'll see him again in heaven some day.
