How have I missed this over the years?
You have been beside me through laughter and tears.
And in the background all through the past
You have walked beside me with a friendship fast.

You were there when I loved and married my spouse
You visited with your first born in our first little house.
When we moved, you were there across the way
When things seemed gloomy, you'd brighten the day.

When tradgedy struck and Robert died
You were there again right by my side.
Whenever the going seemed too much to bear
I could always look up and find you there.

When my emotions seemed to go astray
You took me by the hand and showed me the way.
Back to a sensible and civilized life
You made me appreciate all the toil and strife.

How can a person ever repay
Such friendship given day by day
But, God willing, I hope in some little way
This genuine friendship I will repay.
