As this demo was sent to me as a two disc set, I will review it as one whole
unit, though I will divide it into two parts. I don't know how to begin
describing this release. Combining elements of black metal, dark ambient,
industrial and techno, Cynoptik (Deathfrost's only member) has released a
challenging, yet enjoyable piece of work.
Starting off with "Father Devil",
disc one sounds like a combination of Aphex Twins, Burzum and Hell On Earth.
Fuzzy guitar riffs, mechanical drum beats and bizarre vocal phrasings are the
driving force behing this release.
The mix is almost painfully raw in areas,
but there are some great sounds to be found. "Conjuring Beelzebub" is one of my
favorite tracks on disc one.
Disc two starts off with "Flight 666" , and
shows a forward progression from the first half of this release. The vocals are
more black metalish, The guitar is a bit more melodic, though still
fuzzy.
The keyboard work on "Identification of Dismembered" have a retro
pschedlic era feel to them, and this disc also features cover versions of Black
Sabbath (Sweet Leaf) and AC/DC (Giving The Dog a Bone) which need to checked
out. Cynoptik even did the "cough" intro to Sweet Leaf.
Cynoptik is not going
to achieve superstardom with this release, nor do I think he wants to. This opus
is the product of one man's nitemaric vision, which will intrigue some and
alienate others.
