Introduction To ICU, PUMC Hospital
General Information
The Department of Critical Care Medicine, PUMC Hospital was originally established in 1984, making it one of the 1st established ICUs in China.



However, intensive care unit (ICU) started in 1982, with only one bed at the very beginning. Since 1995, ICU has expanded its beds to 14.



The department also accepts doctors and nurses from almost all over China for professional training programme. It has been assigned as one of the National Professional Training Centers for Critical Care Medicine since 1994.



As a general ICU, it admits both medical and surgical patients, with annual admissions in the range of 300 to 350.

The majority of the housestaff are involved in the research work as well as clinical work.
