"camelot"

by Emily Newman

welcome to camelot on coffee
set in and around a cafe
my knights replace rusty armor
with shining black leather
their mechanical steeds
purr and roar down the street
they're over protective
over bearing
at least for when i'm sane
when i'm not,
well, i just don't care
to discuss that end
of my personal spectrum
i'm the bi-polar princess
the reigning queen of the screwed
once, a lifetime ago,
just a scared little girl
shivering and screaming
in a sealed glass box
both the trapped and the trapper
now, a proud empress
a survivor of life's battles
hiding the scars and wounds
that begin to fade
with time
with time
with time
and all the strength of my lioness blood
rushes through my veins
have some more coffee
have some more talk
listen
listen as we try
to figure out life
the questions have no answers
but the friendship endures
although the roles have changed
have some more coffee
have some more talk
listen
listen
listen
life's lessons come in whispers
like snow through the window
