I am

by Emily Newman

Strong
As hardened steel
Supporting the weight
Of Skyscrappers

Frail
As a glass figurine
Easily broken
By thoughtless treatment

Beautiful
As a budding rose
Flawless
In innocence

Ugly
As a trash dump
The strewn crumbs
Of a broken society

Flexible
As a willow
Bending in gales
Left unbroken

Rigid
As concrete
Unable to change
Cracking in cold

Warm
As a sunbeam
Shining out
For all to see

Cold
As an avalanche
Stealing away life
From all I touch

Creative
As a god
Life through
My womb

Destructive
As chaos
Deadly poison
To all

Everything
As the universe
All possibilities
Lie within

Nothing
As emptiness
Beyond your
Understanding
