A Maiden's Prayer

by Carol Knight

A maiden pure and plain,
Out for a stroll one day,
Came upon a shrine.
On site of this Holy place,
She dropped to her knees.
Embraced and Kissed,
She began to weep and pray.
Give unto me all that I require-
A husband, health and wealth.
Bring forth to me a husband
Who beats me not
Nor o'erly requires me.
A husband gentle with love
And health and wealth;
Who will kiss my hand at morning time,
And my neck at night.
