A Lesson in Life
I was walking along the road one night
When I saw a man of stature slight
Coat in tatters, boots a fright
'twas a man I did not know.
I was beleagured by a single thought
What if this beggar could be taught
Of all the things that nature brought
For us to see and wonder.
The man reached out a shriveled hand
And a toothless smile gave he grand
As if the world were one big band
Playing just for him.
I took his blue-veined hand in mine
And led him on a path divine
Of birds and trees and stars in line
And in sync with nature.
And underneath the pale moolight
He gave a grin of such delight
He had, till now, not known his plight
Of not seeking out earths splendor.
I took him to a sheltered place
Delighted in his raptured face
The world around him gave him the grace
to rest in peace.
