Scarlet Letter
She thought the battle over
She could not be more wrong.
This fight was just beginning
It had tarried much too long.
The hatred she brought with her
Cloaked her spirit like a shroud
Devoured her whole being
Yet she held her body proud.
These harsh, unequaled feelings,
She kept them to herself
But they spread to those around her
With deadly, demonic stealth.
She's tampered down the fear that comes
with meeting the unknown
Still everyone who met her felt
The urge to run back home.
Her valiance should be rewarded
As should the pride that she has shown
She's forgiven those around her
Now she's her own life to condone.
Should she end her malevolent lifetime
Or forgive herself of sin?
See, her war would long be over
Had her heart known what would win.
