Legend Of The Willow
From: Athena, Sunday 9 August,1998 12:27
An Overwhelming sadness has filled the land. Hope for the
future has all but vanished. Love, compassion and magic
have been relegated to stories of the distant past. No
one knows the legends anymore or the cause of this
mysterious morose that has blanketed the entire world.
This covering of gloom filled that has filled the world
with a sense of lonely, hopeless desperation.
One night a group strangers were seeking escape from the
ever present gloom in one of the many road side inns.
When a mysterious person entered. Oddly clothed in a
manner which covered the face, hair, and even shape of
this mysterious figure. The only thing that could be seen
were the odd amber eyes which seemed to be glowing with
knowledge and power. This new traveler ordered a meal and
mead and sat eating in the hush those troublesome eyes
constantly flickering over the crowd. Upon finishing the
last of the meal this new traveler looked with a focused
concentration into the eyes of each person there. A soft
chuckle bubbled through the room sending a shock through
the room which had been so long without laughter. The
crowd jumped as if hit by a lightning bolt at the sound.
It had been long since Gods had deserted them and left
the world bereft of happiness they had forgotten what it
was.
The Mysterious person began to speak in a soft,
enchanting, feminine voice.

" I know the cause
of your loss. I know why the gloom has invaded your world
so thickly that the sunshine of hope can no longer Peirce
it. I have searched the entire world for the group of
travelers destined to touch the magic and bring it back
to this world. tonight I have found them."
A mummer of shocked disbelief ran through the inn. Crazy
female with those odd eyes looking at them an announcing
she knew the cure to their worlds problems. Why, she had
even laughed! No one laughs in this world, the gloom is
much to heavy. They began to look around the room at each
other for the first time in years. Actually seeing one
another. These strangers gathered in the gloom realized
,a more curious mix of folks would be hard to find. Some
here destined to touch magic. Unimaginable, impossible
they were all unknown to each other.
The strange female with oddly colored eyes let the crowd
have their moment of disbelief and their first good look
at each other. Then softly began to speak again "You
do not know each other now, this is true. Some may not be
up to the journey. However those of you who make it will
become friends as you make this pilgrimage. Oh, I get
ahead of myself your thoughts distract me. I need to tell
you the Legend Of The Willow. |

Once the world was
covered in willows. A magical tree that could catch
moonbeams in her branches and change them into magic. A
guardian who protected against evil. This tree breaths in
the gloom and despair and exhales it softly as love,
hope, and Magic. All the things your world is missing
now. The Gods spread these trees plentifully in your
world and whispered the secrets of them to your elders.
For centuries your people listened to the elders and
protected these mighty trees as one would protect a
precious gift from the Gods. You adored her lithe form
and branches that gently wept to spare the world from
sorrow. You would lovingly tend her needs. You gently
clip branches to weave baskets made from her magical
limbs to catch moonbeams and hold love and good fortune
in your homes. You spent hours along the river beds men,
fairies and elves alike among her gentle branches
gracefully dipping, weeping, like silken threads
entwining and producing love, and happiness. Then as
always happens the evil forces began to invade your
world. They mocked the knowledge of the elder and claimed
the magic of the willow did not exist. The foolish young
were persuaded and began to leave the ways of your
people. These mighty trees of love began to die. Men cut
them down. The evil in the air became to much to absorb.
The more trees that disappeared the thicker the gloom
became. These mighty protectors began to fail and despair
began to control your world. Now there is but one tree
left. She is held prisoner in a great labyrinth where she
will remain until a group of strangers unite to defeat
the gloom. These strangers have yet to loose the power of
love and still retain strong true hearts. They are
destined to find her and release her power. To free her
from the forces of darkness. Spreading her magic
throughout the land. This will not be an easy quest as
the labyrinth is filled with guardians of the dark side.
But if you succeed you will be healers of this land.
Touched by magic. You will retain the power to heal the
great sorrows of your world. And the Willow will no
longer weep alone. |
