The announcement on the bulletin board in the empty music room blurred in front of Jinny's eyes. She blinked and read the first two lines again: Elena Nicholas The door burst open and half a dozen girls and boys, who had also tried out for the Spring Musical, clattered across to the bulletin board. Jeff shoved his long arm over Jinny's shoulder to run a finger down the list of names until he came to his own. "I dood it," he groaned. "Who talked me into this tenor stuff anyway?" I'm scared to look," squealed Dode. "I only tried out for chorus, but I had a cold "Hey, what's going on around here?" Jeff exclaimed. "Elena Nicholas, who's she?"
"Never heard of her," said Marge. "She isn't in the Glee Club."
"Anybody can try out for the Spring Musical," Dode pointed out. "Maybe she's new in school."
"Nope, she was in my math class last year," Larry said. "Dumb, and I mean dumb. Never opened her mouth."

Jinny swallowed and decided she could trust her voice. "That's Miss Taylor. Always sure somebody will be ill or something at the last minute. All the understudies are in the chorus where they won't be missed if she needs them."

Just say the word and we'll all pull out," offered Jeff. "Let Miss Taylor dig up another supporting cast for this Nicholas character."
Jinny shook her head and managed to smile.
"Well, you're sure being an awfully good sport about it," said Marge.
