Rain of Change
Stepped past the headstone
And dropped my guns in the dust
For all I care someone can take them
Let the land turn them to rust
Church bell rings behind me as I walk
Flat land in front of me baked by the sun
What have I done and where can I go
Humanity is what I’m going to shun
I’m sorry that I brought this down on you
But rest your head now my dear
I’ll be haunted by the night they came for
me
I’ll forever feel the pulsing fear
And could things have been different
Had I not been this person I am
Would you still be alive and with me today
And not on the other side of a dam
I guess they didn’t know you were with me
Just us two hiding in the night
And they shot for me but they killed you
And I slipped away after you died... in the
fight
Even now I shouldn’t be here
Where they put you to rest in the ground
It’s so much to risk
But for you I’d risk being found
I’ll wander into the land
And maybe I’ll never come out
No one would care if I’m alive or dead
Maybe I’ll find what life is about
Now the rain is starting to fall
Falling down from the heavens above
I pray that’s where you are my dear
I pray that’s where you are... my love
I’m so sorry this happened
And I wish it could have been me
And maybe one day it will be
Until then... I’ll wait and see
