Welcome! (In That Dry AOL Voice)
Hi! I'm Philip Seaton and I'm a sophomore in high school in Washington, DC. My family has a background of photography as a serious hobby, and I guess that I'm continuing the line.
In the sixth grade, my school at the time introduced a mandatory photography course which included all aspects of the art: shooting, developing, printing, mounting, evaluating, etc. This class was the first time I was exposed to photography and liked it. After that class followed another year of a similar regiment. At that point I decided that I liked photography enough to put a significant investment into it.
I built a darkroom in my basement during the summer. For 3 years, at that point, carpentry had been my primary means of passing time. After convincing my parents to let me have the 8' x 8' space in the basement (right under the bathroom, which leaks), I commenced construction. About a month later, I had a fully functional B&W darkroom.
Since that time, photography has been my main hobby. By preference, I shoot almost exclusively B&W 35mm nature, landscape, and architecture, but have just bought a 4x5 system to supplement. Besides photography, my interests are mainly academic, but I do make exceptions for such hobbies as being a techie for my school's black box theater, carpentry, and general fix-it type work.
As stated, I shoot pictures of mostly anything but people. I try to capture the majesty of the great outdoor photographers such as Ansel Adams and Minor White. In going with this goal, I am currently employed by one of the teachers of Ansel Adams' masters' workshops. Although this work is as an event photographer, I am learning the technical details of photography.
I hope you enjoy my work, and if you want to check for new photos, you can visit my website, where there are complete descriptions of all the photos and constant updates.
