ARTIST NOTES: Most people are not aware of the numerous inhabitants of the average kitchen. No, I'm not referring to the occasional spider, mouse, or beetle. I'm referring to the kitchen fairies who have cohabited with man since the beginning of time. As man evolved from Cro-Magnon to modern man, the kitchen fairies were most grateful to move from the dampness of the old cave into our bright, warm kitchen. The sticks, rock chips, and bits of ash they used to make-do with have been replaced with a host of wonderful appliances. Usually we are unable to see these fairies, but if you watch through the night of the summer solstice, you will be able to not only see them, but hear them as well. Noted authority Will Shakespeare recorded their behavior accurately in his scientific treatise, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Occasionally, lesser-known authors have recorded the doings of the fairies, but there is very little current research being done on their basic biology and behavior. This artist challenges the scientific community to repair this appalling gap in the study of such a resourceful and amiable fellow creature of earth.
