Pumpkinchild 1
TITLE OF PIECE: Pumpkinchild EDITION: One of a kind ARTIST: Jeanne K. J. Weiland DIMENSIONS: Pumpkin child, seated 4 1/2 inches Bushel basket 1 1/4 inches tall Base 5 3/4 x 7 inches MATERIALS: Mixed media. The figures are polyform clay. The unfortunate gentleman with the headache has glass eyes, and the bushel basket is wood and wire. ARTIST NOTES: My children's initial reaction to this doll was, "Oh, neat...Oh, SICK! Mom, you need help." What they are perhaps too young to realize is that this piece IS help. In "real life" I work in the business world. Many days are very stressful in the workplace, and finest therapy I've found to date for relieving that tension is to come home and rearrange "someone's" facial features. There is something eminently satisfying in gouging out eye sockets, moving a nose, or slicing off the top of a head. It has often struck me that pumpkins, like employees, are always on the receiving end. This is just a bit of tongue-in-cheek justice portrayed here. I surely wouldn't want the viewer to think the head on the basket is in any way meant to represent anyone I work with...
