TITLE OF PIECE: Pumpkinchild II

EDITION: One of a kind

ARTIST: Jeanne K. J. Weiland

DIMENSIONS: Pumpkin child, seated 14"

Base 18" x 20"

MATERIALS: Mixed media. The pumpkin child is polymer clay with leaves of brass and acrylic. The unfortunate gentleman with the headache has a polymer head with rooted hair of lambs wool, and the bushel basket is wood and wire. The split rail fence is a split rail fence. And the artist fought tooth and nail to keep the pieces out of the fireplace. It seems the artist's husband viewed the rails as perfect kindling!

ARTIST NOTES: My children's initial reaction to this doll was, "Oh, neat...Oh, SICK! Mom, you need help." What they are perhaps too young to realize is that this piece IS help. In "real life" I work in the business world. Many days are very stressful in the workplace, and finest therapy I've found to date for relieving that tension is to come home and rearrange "someone's" facial features. There is something eminently satisfying in gouging out eye sockets, moving a nose, or slicing off the top of a head. It has often struck me that pumpkins, like employees in a service company, are always on the receiving end. This is just a bit of tongue-in-cheek justice.
