March 4, 1998 The Honorable Loretta Sanchez United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20510 Dear Representative Sanchez: As a disabled person, I object to Gingrich's conditions to the increase in funding for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Poor ADA enforcement is actively encouraging employers to play the discrimination game more subtly and oftentimes with a smile. We're already seeing judges chipping the teeth away from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with their mallets. We are already watching the courts gut the intentions of ADA. Basically now the legal arm that enforces ADA needs to be strengthened and EEOC has the right solution which is to use testers. Testers WILL make cases more stronger and eliminate the so called "Victim's word against the employers" syndrome that eats up many of the cases that are filed. Please object to Gingrich's conditions to increase in funding for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. We need the legal arm that enforces our rights strengthened and that means testers at EEOC. The disability community is one of the largest and most underrepresented groups in the State as well in the nation. Thank you very much for your time to read this letter and I anticipate your response. Richard Roehm (address) (address)
