Greetings, With ADA anniversary comming up, I will be posting information from my resources. Each day of this week I have posted some valuable information to the Deaf and Disability community. Today's Resource : A Warning from the American Civil Liberties Union: For 30 years, affirmative action programs have been successfully remedying the pervasive effects of discrimination based on race, sex, ethnicity, and national origin. Women and minority students throughout the United States now have educational opportunities that were previously denied to them solely because of their gender or skin color. Businesses have embarked on a path of flexible goals to correct the exclusion of women and minority employees from large numbers of jobs. And in case after case, the US Supreme Court has affirmed the continued need for race-based programs that are narrowly tailored to address proven discrimination. Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, and Representative Charles Canady, Republican of Florida, have introduced legislation misnamed the "Civil Rights Act of 1997," which would halt the 30 years of progress that women and people of color have made in education, employment, and contracting. If you support equal opportunity for all Americans, it is crucial that you write or call your representatives today, and urge them to oppose this legislation.
