DEAF WORKERS OF ORANGE COUNTY PROJECT -- DEAF WORKERS WEEKLY BULLETIN -- July, 18 1998 Greetings, A few Deaf L.A. activists are freaking out that I am making contact with GLAD officials. This does not in any way indicate or will indicate any support or any endorsement of any person or persons within the GLAD organization. A few of them also expressed support for my meeting with these people. For those of you who were upset, chill down a bit and let me finish what I have to do. We will be able to get GLAD running in the right direction later on but small things to get inside the organization must be accomplished if we were to gain some ground within the organization. Also, if we were to accomplish our objectives, we must deal with the problem in the most professional demeanor as possible and this includes giving GLAD officials the fair opportunity to demonstrate their positions. So far I see two well known activists in the Los Angeles has sunk to the lowest by responding to my plans to meet one of GLAD's officials with the most childish and paranoid replies I have ever seen. If those 2 guys continue this way, we will not be able to accomplish our objectives. Richard Roehm ---- HEY DEAF RV'ERS. And then the Californians are taxed further to help pay for junk car disposal, registration transfers, smog fees, and oxygenated gas. Assembly Bill 1776, the Vehicle Registration tax cut will help all car owners through a schedule of fee reductions. Of the money you pay for registration, only $27.00 actually goes to the Department of Motor Vehicles. The rests are used up by the California General Fund. AB 1776 would cut car registration fees over 5 years. The amount you pay to register your car would be reduced every year, until year 5, when you would only pay $27.00. California car owners would save an average of $240 a year. California residents should contact the Assembly and State Senators and ask them to support AB 1776. ---- GLAD HAS OPENING FOR A NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER The Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness has on their website, the long awaited opening for a new Chief Executive Officer. CEO job announcement at http://www.gladinc.org/ceo.htm Employment page http://www.gladinc.org/gladjobs.htm We are sure this news will direct a lot of people's attention toward GLAD when they choose their new leader. My prayers go to GLAD's board as they go through the difficult task of choosing the next person who would take the helm of the organization and their new futuristic headquarters in Eagle Rock. ---- SHOW YOUR POWER!- DURING ADA CELEBRATION - WEEK JULY 26 - AUGUST 1 1998 DURING THIS WEEK, FOR EACH GENERAL MILLS PRODUCT YOU BUY AT KMART (WITH RICHARD ROEHM AS BOOTH HOST ON JULY 26, 1998) 2505 EL CAMINO REAL TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA 92704 OR ANY OTHER KMART STORES, GENERAL MILLS WILL DONATE TO THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES GENERAL MILLS PRODUCTS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS Cheerios, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Fruit Roll-Ups, Trix Fruit Shapes, Squeezit Variety Pack, Bugels, Chex Mix, Hamburger Helper, Betty Crocker Speciality Potatoes, Family Fudge Brownie mix.
