We made a mummy and didn't even use a dead guy!!! Seriously, we covered a student up to his neck with a plastic painting drop cloth. After he was protected, we used school-grade paper towels soaked in plaster-of-paris. To finish up, after we had a good base-coat, the final coat of plaster was just rubbed on with our hamds, without the paper towels. You have to work fast!
We were getting close, but time was a real concern. We had made a promise to have the tomb's grand opening on Multicultural Day at King School. Before that we were scheduled to do a play based on the Egyptian legend of Isis and Osiris, in front of the tomb.
The roof is constructed of thirty-six, 8 foot-long carpet rolls. Thanks to our PE teacher, Miss Hallberg, for that idea. As the project grew and grew, suggestions, ideas, and support came from everywhere!
