As many people already know, Eriko a member of the ultra-popular girl group SPEED until early this year.  Like the other members of SPEED, she's from Okinawa prefecture and studied at the Okinawa Actor's School( along with other popular artists like Namie Amuro, Da Pump, Rina Chinen, etc.).  She was one of the two main singers of the group, but not a very good dancer.. ^^;;  Anyway, Eriko was always my favorite member of SPEED because she always seemed like she was the happiest to be in the group.  But alas, nothing lasts forever, right?  SPEED ended in March 2000 and the four girls(Eriko, Arakaki Hitoe, Uehara Takako, and Shimabukuro Hiroko) went their seperate ways.

However, as early as 1998 the girls had been working on solo projects.  Eriko made her solo singing debut with four dancers as the unit Eriko With Crunch in October '98 and starred in the TBS drama L*I*V*E with fellow SPEED member Arakaki Hitoe(another fave of mine ^_^).

Now that SPEED's broken up, Eriko has been putting all her time into her solo career.  However, I've heard that Eriko doesn't really like singing by herself(she even cried during the recording of Red Beat of My Life ;-;) and that she's been a bit depressed.  Also, her solo singles aren't really selling that well. :/  Hopefully things'll get better once she can make a name for herslef besides just "that girl who used to be in SPEED.."
