THE WIFE’S STORY

"The Wife’s Story", but Ursula K. Le Guin Talks about the wife who had a good husband. They have a good relationship and live together in the woods. Her husband was always gentle and treats the family very nice. A quote in the book proves the husband cares about his family: "When I first met him he was still living with his mother, over near Spring Lake, and I used to see them together, the mother and the sons, and think that any young fellow that was that nice with his family be one worth knowing." From this quote, we see the husband loves the family as well as the wife does. Because of the love, there was much happiness going on in the family.

This happiness doesn’t last very long. There were rumors about her husband. He has a curse from his blood. The wife becomes suspicious of him. For instance, "Something comes over the on that’s got the curse in his blood, they say, and he gets up because he can’t sleep, and goes off into the glaring sun, and goes off all alone-drawn to find those like him." The wife was also confused as well as suspicious. One time, her child was scared of her husband. The wife was confused and frightened, too. An example of this kind of emotion is: "I said to the child, ‘Shame on you, what’s got into you!’-scolding, but keeping her right up close to me at the same time, because I was frightened too." Here it says that the child sees something that he shouldn’t see of his father and was frightened about it. The wife doesn’t know why her child is displaying his behavior.

Soon the wife found out that her husband wasn’t a wolf, but a human. She couldn’t believe her eyes. In the book it says, "I couldn’t move, but as I crouched there in the passage staring out into the day I was trembling and shaking with a growl that burst out into a crazy, awful howling." She was hurt when she saw her husband turn from a wolf to a human. She was afraid that her husband would kill her children. So her sister came and chased her husband. She got a hold of his neck. Her husband was dead. Te wife thought that her husband was released from the curse and was not dead. Bt she was wrong. She was sad that her husband was dead. The she and her sister went away into the woods. From this story, we learn that things are very uncontrollable. Things happen at any time. You can’t stop the things that are going to happen.
