Video Review of Jump Off A Building - Toy Machine by Jason Jones.
Crunch Time!
I got the new video "Jump Off A Building" last week. Bam, Kerry, and Brian all had killer parts. The rest was sick, but these guys were my favorites. I got so hyped after watching it a dozen times or so, that I went out and tried to jump of a bridge. Not really, but I was trying 50/50 transfers on the bridge railing into the street and sacked my crotch really hard. I didn't think too much about it, you know another day skating, but on the way home I just happened to get out of my car and get a soda. When I came back out it looked like there was dirt on my seat. I tried to wipe it off but then I noticed it was blood. I went into the kwik mart's bathroom and checked my drawers. The whole crotch was red and after further inspection I had an inch and a half long slice in my inner thigh and it looked all deep and wide open. Well it took eight stitches and now I walk like a gay cowboy. Toy Machine makes me hurt myself!
Video Review of Big Brother Number Two by Vince Lavers.
First off I admit that I am a huge Big Brother fan and I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this video. This video is made to entertain, and these guys know how to do it. Dave Carnie is a genius. Him and his staff have sucessfully brought the magazine to film. As in the magazine, it's not all skateboarding: drunks, drugs, pigs, piss, and hurting people.
But the skating you do find in it is kinda lame. Maybe it's just me but the problem I see when I get a video from any magazine or even 411, you don't get any original tricks. I guess it's just that their only skating for one day and their probably the only one skating. When someone skates with a group, it's sort of bringing it to the next level. Or when a skater feels that he has to prove himself, he can't do it in just one day. That's the advantage that companies have over these magazines. Most featured skating is pretty dry, I saw alot of flip tricks and tech stuff, there isn't one trick that I thought was big. Like I said, skaters were just not pumped enough to go for the 18 stair handrails and the house to house gaps. Now don't get me wrong, I love to skate tech, I could watch Daewon Song for the rest of my life, but there was just nothing truly impressive or outstanding. When someone mentions a video, I instantly visualize what made the video for me. The only thing that I can think of from this video is the Poocano. That was gnarly!
The bottom line is that this video has the skaters, they just don't perform. As for the funny stuff, Johnny Knoxville is nuts, Dave Carnie is God, and Chris Pontius is my father. I recommend taping this video off your friend, don't bother buying it, but it's worth seeing.
Video Review of Welcome To Hell by Vince Lavers.
The thing that really impressed me about this video was that every member of this team resembled each other. Their styles are such that i can easily visualize the team skating together at some late night session. Recently I have noticed that other companies have been abusing the word team. A team is something that works together to become strong as one. How often would you see Willie Santos sessing with Tony Hawk? Probably not very often; they don't even come close to the same style. But Toy Machine is different. Along with the bones brigade in the eighties and Plan B in the early ninteies, Toy Machine proves to be the next dominate team in skateboarding.
The music was awesome, perfectly fitting the styles of each skater. Ellisa could of used a longer section. I thought that Ed would try more flip tricks, there was only like under 5. I was also looking to see Ed do some ollie impossibles. Jamie Thomas should be feared and not allowed to be within 15 feet of children at all times. Brian looks consistent as hell ( i got his last two boards), and Mike should grow an afro as soon a possible. At first I hated Donny's section, but now I see how it flows.
I would also like to congratulate Ed on his recent victory in the big brother's skateboarding awards.
