"Oh, Spirited. Oh, Good - Oh, very good.
I'll enjoy making you bleed. And I'll enjoy making you enjoy it."
-- Pinhead,
Hellraiser III

He'll Tear your Soul Apart I am an avid fan of the horror genre. I love a good fright. Being a child of the Nintendo generation, however, I have become desensitized to the "canned screams" that most new horror films bring. Growing up in a generation where horror in films is equal to gore and hack&slash, I came to love horror movies that had an intelligence about them. Hellraiser quickly became my love.

I am fascinated by the Hellraiser mythology. I really don't know why. There are better done horror movies out there -- definitely, Hellraiser truly shows its age and budget. The novella was short and simple, and hardly dealt with the mythos.
I think my fascination comes from what can be gathered just by watching the cenobites. It is not the mythology as it is told in the films and book -- it is the mythos that is implied. The stories in my head, which have been forged by Hellraiser, are what keep me in love with the story. I just think about the concepts and imagine the storytelling possibilities.

I think of the world that Barker has brought to us; a world where the acolytes of Leviathan come to teach his ways to those who summon them. A world where solving an innocent looking puzzle box can damn one's soul.

A world of flesh and the patterns it can be submitted too. Of forbidden pleasures and dark desires. Where Order is the face of the villain, and it wages war on the chaos that is flesh and bone.

With this said, I dedicate this section of my website to Hellraiser and its mythos.
