C.S.B. Curriculum

Pre-ballet: This is the student's first exposure to ballet, presented in the creative ways to encourage imaginations, gracefulness, and appreciation of music.

Pre-primary: The R.A.D. grades syllabus consists of ten levels beginning with the Pre-primary at age five where children begin to gain skills in coordination, locomotor movements, and learn a basic vocabulary of steps. They are also listening and interpreting music through dance in a fun yet disciplined manner.

Primary-Grade 5: In the progression of Primary through Grade 5 levels, students continue to increase their knowledge of vocabulary in ballet while also introducing character and contemporary. They are developing a strong sense of rhythm, poise, self-expression, and self-discipline while training their bodies in proper technique.

Grades 6,7,8: These levels explore more complex musicality and phrasing. By this time a strong technique has already been established and most of the work is performed as solos emphasizing the required style and dance quality.

Majors: Pre-Elementary, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced comprise the Majors levels and are for those students who wish to pursue professional careers as dancers or teachers. technique, strength, and stamina are finely tunes at these levels, increasingly challenging the dancer's bodies and artistry.

Adults: Emphasis is placed upon correct posture, placing, vocabulary, and enjoyment of the art of classical ballet while gaining general fitness for the body.

Watching Week: The last week of each term parents are invited to watch their child's class, otherwise visitors are not permitted in the studio so that optimum learning environment may be maintained.

Performance Opportunities: As ballet is a art of the theatre, students are given the opportunity to perform at an informal holiday group in December and also in a more formal presentation culminating the year's work in June.

Summer Classes: Classes continue through the summer offering a variety of special activities, including day camps, field trips, and special guest instructors.

C.S.B. Newsletter: "Backstage" is a quarterly newsletter handed out at the beginning of each term to inform and update students and parents of upcoming events, rehearsals, and activities happening at the school.
