"A Pusher's Change"
or: How Jesus Christ changed my life.

by Pastor Hanspeter Künzle

I'm sure you don't know many Pastors that were in the drug-business. I do not wish to glorify drugs, or myself, with telling you that story, but only one thing is in my mind: To give glory to whom it belongs, to the wonderful Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ!
He changed my life from inside out, and I suppose that without Him I would be dead now - or almost. At the age of 15 I begun to smoke Hashish, and I enjoyed it! I had a good, solid education in a fine family, and I do not place the guilt about me becoming a drug user anywhere else than with me. I wanted to have the drugs, and I knew what I was doing, and neither family nor education nor circumstances forced me to do anything. You know, it is very common to seek always to excuse oneself and to blame others, but I cannot do this with a good conscience.
For about 15 years I smoked regularly (daily!) hashish and marihuana. At the age of 18 I was occasionally dealing with hashish and a little LSD, like nearly all of my friends. Whoever had good stuff bought enough to bring also to his friends. Most drug users do that, and stop there. But I did otherwise, my business grew. At the age of 27 I was already arrested four times, and two investigations against me were closed with fines because of the consumption of illegal drugs. But because I never made my business on the street, only private, police could not prove that I was a dealer.
During the years I consumed along with hasish quite a lot of LSD and STP (synthetic hallucinogens), Psylocibin and Mescalin (hallicunogens in mushrooms, cactus) and sometimes a little cocain. I did not use heroin; one of the first killed by heroin in the town of Zurich (Switzerland) was a friend of mine. I married at the age of 26 a woman from East Asia, while on a long holiday trip. She did not use drugs, so she kept my consumption down a little bit.
One of my best friends began to deal with cocain, and I helped him a little. He came to live in my house, and soon I knew his clients and his suppliers. He had to go to prison for 30 months, and in that time I took his place and dealt with cocain. When he came out of jail, he wanted to make a lot of money in short time, so he was soon arrested again, and along with him also me.
I knew that the investigation could last a long time and I would have a lot of time alone in my cell. So I took a Bible with me, which I bought some months before. I had bought it because one of my friends told me, that it contains a lot of secret knowledge, and I was always seeking secrets. Don't think, that the drug people are not interested in a lot of things, they are; and especially the supernatural is seeked. I myself practiced different meditations techniques, including some that work together with drugs, and I was very interested in parapsychology.
I was then for 4 ½ month in solitary confinement. During that time, some things began to become clear. I found that I had betrayed myself for quite a time. I had "sniffed" cocain for about two years and smoked "freebase-crack" for a little more than 8 months. I always pretended not to be addicted, but now I found that I was! I suffered a little, had fever and could not sleep for nearly three month. These nights without sleep, and no light to read, that was the hardest thing! During the day I could distract my thoughts by reading, but in the night... I realized for the first time the truth about my life - and that my life was a disaster. The realization of this was hard! In that time I read a lot in the Bible, and I begun to think about God.
One night then, after about 2 ½ months in prison, I knew: Now is the time to decide! I figured out two possibilities. Either I go on as before, try to hide as much as possible and to be out of prison as soon as possible and live on with drugs, the same as until now; or everything had to change. I knew definitely that I would never succeedd in changing my own life. I had tought a lot about what I had read in the New Testament about Jesus Christ and that He died for the sins of the world and that He was ready to forgive and that in Him everything could be made new and...

That night I knelt down on the floor and cried like a baby (for the first time since I was a child), and I talked to God. " If you exist, Jesus Christ, and if that is true what I have read in the Bible, then please take my life and do something. All I did is just wrong and evil and bad and.." In that manner I begun, and I confessed the sins that I knew of, and asked HIS forgiveness. I do not know all the details today, but I had a longer talk then with God. As I look back now, the great miracle was, that HE took me at my word - and I took HIM at HIS!

I was convicted after having pleaded guilty to a term of 3 ½ years in the penitentary; in my case a very mild sentence! Because I had spent already nearly three years in prison waiting for my trial, I was able to leave some days after my trial on parol.
During my time in prison, I began to study the Bible seriously. I began a correspondence study in English, and all my studies ended 1996 with my Master degree in Religious education.
When I came out of prison, I immediately began to work in my Church as much as I could. I was baptized in prison and also became a member of that Church. in 1988 I was ordained as lay preacher in that Church, and I preached spordically at first, then more and more. in 1989 the little missionary Church in the principality of Liechtenstein asked me to become their Pastor, when the missionary that founded it left. After much prayer I agreed, and my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has carried me through until today.
I can testify from the bottom of my my heart, that without God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, I would be dead - or in prison - or somwhere in the "mud of the streets" today. It is HE, and HE only, that changed my life. Without HIM, I would not be free from drugs and smoking; and never would I have been able to study the Bible, alongside my normal work schedule. It is only a little more than a year that I work fulltime for the Church. Until recently I had a part-time job in a factory to make a living.
I believe, that everybody needs Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, not only drug users, criminals and other very bad people. I will show you in the following text, why I believe that and how you can be saved by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Please read it carefully, your eternal life " is at stake"!

The Bible says: "There is none righteous, no, not one,"(Romans 3.10) and "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God:" (Romans 3.23). That is how God sees man, everyone is a sinner, not only criminals and evil- living people, everyone; and that includes YOU ! And I believe, that God must punish sin, and every sinner because of his sin. "For the wages of sin is death," (Romans 6.23a). Here the Bible speaks about the second death, the spiritual death. Man calls that hell, the Bible also calls it eternal damnation.I believe that the Bible is Gods word, 100%, and that it is God's truth. So, I believe, that after the physical death, there is no more possibility to change one's eternal destiny.
But you can change it now!
It is your decision, where you'll spend eternity!
Read the following verses very carefully, please. " I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (John 11.25-26). Do you believe, what Jesus Christ, God the Son, says? "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14.6). The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is the way, that you should be on, if you want to end in heaven! It is your decision! "... for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 8.13-14) Do you want to find the narrow way? It is the Lord Jesus Christ himself, "... whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3.16)
If you want to believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, follow these steps:

1. Admit that you are a sinner, and that only the Lord Jesus Christ can save you. (See Romans 3.23)

2. Submit: be willing to turn away from sin and submit to God. (see Luke 13.5)

3. Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross and shed his blood to pay the price for your sins, and that he arose again. (See Romans 10.9)

4. Ask God to save you (See Romans 10.13) and Jesus Christ to forgive you your sins (confess the sins you know, see 1. John 1.9)

5. Ask Jesus Christ to be the Lord (take control) of your life. (See Romans 12.1-2)
