Newspaper Sampler Activity
Introduction:
Newspapers provide the reader with information on a variety of topics presented in a variety of ways. You will have the opportunity to create a Newspaper sampler based on the theme, characters, events, and location of your novel.
The Task
In this activity you will create a Newspaper sampler that includes news stories, editorials, obituaries and at least 3 other types of newspaper writing all based on your novel.
The Process
Use the following web link to research newspaper writing styles:

You will want to be sure that the following topics from your novel are included in your sampler.
Main character - At least one of the pieces of writing in your sampler should tell about the main character of your novel.
Theme - The theme of your novel should be explored in one or more of your newspaper articles.
Setting - Explore the setting of your novel. (Place and Time Period) The Internet will provide you with many helpful sites.
Key Novel Events - Be sure to include news articles that recount key events in your novel.
After you have written your articles, headlines, cartoons obituaries, etc. Use the following site as a checklist for putting your writing into Newspaper format.

How you will be graded
Your sampler will contain at least 6 different items:

· All items must conform to appropriate writing formats
· Newspaper sampler is largely computer generated
· Evidence of research
· Evidence of revision and editing
· Attempt to create a unique and creative sampler
