Christy's Birthday

A little bit heavier on my lap,
Quite a bit taller by my side,
Way too much fuss about taking a nap,
Scuffed-up shoes that never stay tied.

Chubby fingers busy choosing bright toys,
Anxious feet hurrying along,
Many grown up hearts finding new joys,
Through this body, small, yet so strong.

Much more of a job to keep out of things,
Quite a problem when wash day comes,
Full of chatter when the phone rings,
Trying to sing when mama hums.

Yellow curls softly bouncing in the air,
Mischief sparkling through eyes of blue,
Her most welcome laughter our only care,
Today, my little girl is two.
