Debbie And Diane

Four clear blue eyes look up at you,
Full of mystery and wide with wonder.
Ever alert, they shine anew
At the day, the night, the sun, the thunder.

Four nimble hands reach out to hold
The treasures of their day. To pet, to feel,
To touch, to explore and unfold
The important secrets they may conceal.

Four restless feet cannot keep still.
They race over rugs and skip through the town.
They slide and push to get uphill,
Where they turn with a hop to dance back down.

Two pony tails bob in the air,
Framing two faces with wide open grins.
The smiles, the hair, the clothes they wear
Leave no doubt for they are look-a-like twins.

When they sit down to eat a meal,
The bill goes up while the food disappears.
When theyre in the automobile,
Their chatter covers the sound of the gears.

Kisses are given twice as much,
As endless patience is shown by Mother.
Constantly knowing with each helpful touch,
What she gives one, she must give the other.

Twice as many tears come streaming,
During the course of any days affairs.
Double the temper, double the screaming
Double the voices raised in nightly prayers.

Laughter echoes and songs are heard,
When hours are passed with this charming pair.
Forgotten joys and faiths are stirred,
As they offer twice as much love to share.

This is the way I thanked Lee
for all the pies and goodies she
has brought us, since we became
neighbors, which only goes to show, that
democracy really works
How different can two people be?
