So Much Like Home

The car was laboring with a mighty load,
As it churned along the wide, smooth road,
Every house, every field passed sturdy and clean,
Brushed by each Washington evergreen.

The singing trees turned, then bowed with practiced grace
To their masters rising high in space,
For the mountains ruled this land with peaks of white,
Reflecting the sun, Bringing the night.

This was the rolling, green, freedom filled Northwest,
The corner of earth, I loved best,
This was my homeMy placeAnd I was leaving,
This was my land and I was grieving.

Straight to those mountains we wentStraight to the top
Then over and past without a stop,
Away from the salt air, away from the sea,
..Away from roots which were part of me.

This is what is known as a teaser Well
calculated to make you want to read the rest
of it. That is if I ever find the time,
patience or writing ability to finish it.
What do you think. Is it worth the effort to
try to find a finish or should I just save
myself a lot of time and trouble?

Of course, the idea is, we get to Virginia and discover it
is so much like home. Most especially we discover the people
we love, love us back and that in the last instance is what we
left and hungered for once again.
