When Nature Presents Her Play |
The day was almost done, The meadow was ready for rest, As I walked through the quiet field With a youthful stride, My hair was damp from swimming As the sun sank towards the west, Lazily I moved along, With my dog by my side. The cool grass invited me to relax There for awhile, I stretched out on the welcome ground And gazed at the sky, To this day, I am sure That my dog wore a peaceful smile, As side by side we watched Another day go by. The sun in golden glory Was anxious to meet the hill, Then in a spray of red fire, It tried to change its mind, Finally it began to fade, As it followed Gods will, But for one joyous moment, It left its colors behind. The grass started to dance in the soft breeze, Graceful and gay, The open field seemed a stage, With each blade doing its part, Youth enjoys every act As nature presents her play, And memory lingers, In even the oldest heart. The pleasant day was over, For darkness entered the land, The swimming place was empty And the happy shouts had died, The breeze caressed my body, With a tender, loving hand, As I slowly walked towards home, With my best friend by my side. |
