GUISCARD
Guiscard is the younger brother of the Lusitanian King, Inocentius, and thus the second in line for the throne. The two Royal brothers are very similar in height, but differ as much in build as in moral strength. Guiscard is always on edge, muscles tensed, eyes bright, his movements giving off an aura of dynamism and vigor, while Inocentius is languid. Contrary to his brother that lives only for his God and the holy men, for whom piety is the center of his life, he aspires to govern the Kingdom, and in many way does. The Shoguns report to him, and he is the one who takes all the decisions, all the while keeping an eye on possibilities to acquire the throne for himself. He single-handedly runs the Kingdom, taking care of diplomacy, the army, inner politics, and finds solutions to all the crisis Lusitania faces, in lieu of his brother. This total involvement in the works of the state, to the point of ruling in the King's place, makes him wonder about the legitimacy of his brother, of the right to be on the throne, and of his possiblity to eliminate Inocentius, who is only a figurehead, a weak worthless King, while he, who had the misfortune of being born second, could have made a strong, purposeful King, a King that Lusitania could be proud of. Guiscard is allied with Hirumes throughout the OVAs, but only discovers his true nature in OVA4, when Hirumes removes his silver mask and scorns at his dreams to rule Ekubatana. At this point, the alliance between the two ambitious men seem strained, as they are rivals united by their hatred of Arslan, the Pars Crown Prince who wants to take his Kingdom back from them.
