MAIN CHARACTERS
AND OUR STORY CONTINUES...
|
The Pars soldiers barged in, and as they talked, Narcasse and Darun (from
his vantage point on the rafters) understood that they were Lusitanians
mascarading as Pars men. |
|
Narcasse being unresponsive, some soldiers became angry, but he inched towards
his sword, and their leader stopped them. Narcasse had been known not only
for being a great strategist, but also a great swoordsman. |
|
The Lusitanians having heard noise in the cellar, Arslan and Darun moved
to the roof, in case they decided to check it out, even though Narcasse
told them that they were mice feasting on his grain. (inside joke perhaps?)
From there, they watched the soldiers retreat. |
|
As the soldiers leave, possibly to come back in even greater numbers, Arslan
and Darun come down from their hiding place, intent on leaving as soon as
possible. |
|
Narcasse confront Darun because of his deceitfulness: Karlan's soldiers
could have only known that they were here if they had taken the main road
in plain view... To force him to join their cause. |
|
Arslan shrewdly quells Narcasse's anger by promising him a commission as
Imperial artist if he gains the throne, to which Darun strongly objects.
It seems that the strategist's talents are sadly lacking when it comes to
art. Narcasse fully enjoys the irony of it and agrees to help. |
|
At the same time, in Ekubatana, the Lusitanians have surrounded the Capital
city and Bodan, the High Priest of Lusitania, entreats the defenders of
the city to open the gates while torturing the Shogun Shapool. |
|
Bodan, firm believer of the supremacy of his Church over the Pars infidel,
asks them to embrace his God and turn themselves over, for fear of having
the same fate. Shapool entreats the soldiers of Ekubatana to kill him, but
their arrows can't reach in the wind. |
|
A man watches from the battlement, and takes out a bow and arrow, aiming
at Shapool and striking him directly in his heart in front of the awed citizen. |
|
He is called in front of Queen Tahamine as a thanks for his great deed.
She gives him 500 pieces of gold (which were reduced to give a compensation
for one of her chambermaids he had seduced) and a most important task: to
escort her out of Ekubatana before the city falls. |
