time capsule to

ngc 4203:v12:Zqyrax

(hymns and lamentations of earth, ocean and sky to a distant star)

Imagine if you will, a cosmic "message in a bottle" of sorts, jettisoned from a dying world. Imagine a few disparate souls coming together prior to the final annihilation and launching a message aimed at the farthest known reaches of the universe. The message might be simultaneously one of hope as well as despair, -- of rape, murder, unspeakable atrocity and reverence, mercy, unconditional love of a mother . . . it might be a story, a poem, a prayer, a song, a plea for anyone, "out there," to listen. The capsule, sent out toward that farthest of galaxies and planets, might be designed to draw its power from any available light, from even the faintest of light sources. A glimmer… a twinkling… so long as some form of light continues to reach it, the capsule continues to wander toward its distant coordinates. And so, the light which powers the capsule is like hope. As long as there is light, there is hope . . . and the capsule wanders on . . . in a manner, wandering, hoping, wondering, wandering, seeking … a reflection of the essence of the lives of those who sent it out, perhaps even the very essences of life itself.
