I found the washroom and peered inside. No one was in there that I could
see. I checked for cameras before remembering what Alex had told me. His
world didn't have technology like that. I called out softly. "Hello?" No
one answered. "All right, Fred, the coast is clear. Let's get you cleaned
up."
"We'll stay out here and keep watch!" said Alex.
I took Fred into the bathroom, which was huge and very beautiful.
Crystal taps, marble bath tub, thick cotton towels, and a large vanity
mirror filled the room.
"Now, we need some equipment here," I informed Fred. "Hmm . .
. " I looked around and decided to check under the sink. That's where I
keep my bath stuff. I was right, underneath the sink was a huge collection
of bubble baths, soaps, hair and skin care products. I picked out a few
that seemed good, and began to draw a bath. I filled it with soft bubbles
and told Fred to get in. I handed him a towel and face cloth. "You'd better
get yourself completely clean." I ordered him. "Take the bandage off your
leg and gently cleanse it, to get all the blood and dirt off of it. As
for the one on your forehead, just let me get that for you now." I took
the face cloth, got it wet, and then dabbed at his head. He cringed with
every touch, but didn't complain. "Okay, all done. I'm gonna check these
closets and see if I can't find something for you to wear. Your clothes
are barely even holding together."
The first closet was full of more towels and toilet paper. Which
reminded me, I really needed to go! Luckily the bath tub and the toilet
were in separate parts of the room, so I used the washroom as quickly as
I could, but considering I hadn't used the washroom in so long, it took
me a while! Then I checked the next closet. Perfect, it was full of big,
cozy-looking bathrobes and little T-shirts and shorts. I got some out and
headed over to Frederick. He had his leg out of the water and was blindly
dabbing at it with the cloth. He had his head turned away from it, toward
the wall. It looked horrible! All swollen and black and blue. A huge gash
ran down it. He was trying to appear on top of things.
"Well, after examining the situation, I've concluded that none
of the nerves are damaged and the bone is only slightly harmed. I'll be
fine for now, but if we ever get out of here, I'll need to be checked out
by a real doctor!"
"Fred!" I said to him, as I cringed from the look of his leg.
"How did you get all that without even looking at your leg? Anyway, don't
worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you. I owe it to you. You'll be
fine."
We'd need something to keep it together though, so I went back
to the closet. There were sheets on a shelf. I took them down. They were
much too big, but at this point I didn't care about any one's belongings.
I took out my hair clip and used it to cut the sheet into neat strips.
By the time I'd gotten back to Frederick, he was done with his leg.
"Get out, dry off, and put these on." I ordered, as I handed
him the robe and garments. "When you're done, I'll put a new bandage on
your leg." I turned my back as he got out and cleaned off the bubbles.
"Maybe I'll have a quick shower, now that you're done." I said. "Then Alex
and Stephanie could have them too. I'm sure we'll all feel much better
once we're clean." By then he'd finished, and he came and wrapped his arms
around me from behind.
"I know I sure do." he whispered. "Like a whole new me."
I laughed at him and turned around to face him. He smelled delicious.
"That's great," I felt so warm and cozy surrounded by him "but I have to
wrap up your leg now."
"Mmhhmm," he muttered softly, and lightly dropped to the floor.
He laid back and closed his eyes.
I took his leg and got the sheets. His gash looked better already.
He'd managed to give it a good cleaning, considering he wasn't even looking
at it. I wrapped three of the bandages around his leg and used my hair
clip to secure it. "Comfy?" I asked him.
"Mmhhmm" he nodded. I took the rest of them and stuffed them
in one of the huge pockets on the robe. "Well, I'm gonna go tell Alex and
Stephanie about our plan."
"I'll come with." said Fred, and he grabbed my leg and pulled
himself up.
