MY MEMORIAL DAY PAGE

When I was growing up, I didn't really associate Memorial Day with veterans.  It was a time when my grandparents would go back to Kentucky and visit their parent's graves, and the graves of other family members.  While at the cemetery, we would usually see other relatives there visiting as well.  They always referred to the day as "Decoration Day" and we would pick flowers from my grandmother's yard and take them in plastic coffee jars and leave them.

As I got older, I learned that it is a day to remember our veterans.  I have had several veterans in my family, this page is dedicated to one special veteran - my uncle.

This is my uncle.  He was killed in Vietnam in August, 1969, two months after his 20th birthday.

This is my uncle's grave, the photo was taken the day after his funeral.  I was almost five years old at this time, and can remember the huge flower flag very well.  I felt it was appropriate to include a picture of it here.

Thank you for visiting my page
