About the JAMPA LING Tibetan Buddhist Centre
Jampa Ling Centre is located in West Cavan in the Republic of Ireland close to the border with Northern Ireland. Students here follow the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism
It is centred in a large Vicorian house (Owendoon House) with 13 acres of meadow, woods and gardens and bordering onto a lake. It is beautifully situated among the hills and lakes of this little known part of Ireland. The centre is residential and has facilities for visitors. There is a shop, a shrine room and a small library.
The words `Jampa Ling` means a place of loving kindness and it is indeed a place of blessing and energy. It was established in 1990 under the guidance of the Ven. Lama Panchen Otrul Rinpoche, who had been working in the U.K. on inter-faith dialoque at the request of H.H. the Dala Lama. He took over the guidance of Jampa Ling at the request of his students in Ireland.
Formally registered as a Charity in 1992, Jampa Ling is a charitable trust adminstered by five trustees. From the beginning it has been a place open to everyone whether Buddhist or non- Buddhist.
ACTIVITIES
People come for Buddhist teachings, inititiations, training in the art of meditation, periods of retreat and for spiritual guidance and renewal or just to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It is Panchen Otrul Rinpoche`s wish that people feel happier and more peaceful when they leave. We respond to a growing need, one of our aims being to work for peace in this island. The centre is a meeting place for people from both the North and the South of Ireland.
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
Given the growing number of visitors an outbuilding is now being renovated to give additional accomodation and a community room. A further building will be converted into a retreat house. Fund raising is a major issue for this growth and the Trustees wish to consolidate the future of Jampa Ling by also purchasing Owendoon house and its adjoining lands.
