Artist's Statement- "The Human Figure"
Artist's Statement- "The Human Figure"
“It Sais It All”
“Only the human figure exists; landscape is, and should be, no more than an accessory... The sole function of landscape is to heighten the intelligibility of the character of the figure.”
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
The human figure says it all. It has always been the primordial subject matter, the main source of inspiration for artists since ever. I do not only share, I strongly embrace this credo. The feeling of a strong attachment to the human race doesn't leave me any other chance but to devote my energy and time to continue this eon-long human quest for the Truth through the human itself. That's what occupies my days and nights, what makes sense of my life and keeps me alive. My curiosity is deeply rooted, my fascination is one of a child, and my respect and devotion are ones of a scientist.
The human form with its content is the ultimate condensed model of the nature and the universe as a whole. It presents us and me, in particular, with the unique opportunity to find the source of knowledge not at a reach of an arm, but even closer, that's it inside us. Before we reach the stars it would be wise to reach to ourselves. Penetrating so deep inside might help us to touch the divine string, which will bring us closer than ever to the divine power -our Creator. This is an amazingly long journey for such a short distance.
The meticulous and in dept study is only one part of this quest. The other part is having and expressing an opinion. I paint, sculpt and teach because I have something to say, to share. Painting also means publishing the astonishing discoveries I constantly make throughout my journey. With my art I tell people stories, fairy tales, using the symbolist alphabet of my imagery. I point to things, suggest things, I clearly voice my opinion, and make blunt statements in direct or more subtle way.
Personally I consider my style as “Expressionistic Symbolism”, or “Symbolist Expressionism”. My paramount goal is to extract the essence of all this amazing diversity of forms that surrounds us, fills our lives. I am not interested in introducing things the way we see them every day, in their first and pretty superficial degree of visual representation. What I try to achieve is to go beyond this first level, to strip the form from it's everyday banal meaning and to tell everybody old, well forgotten stories in a new way, with the means of these so familiar forms. I am delighted to give new meanings to what we think we know so well, to awake people's awareness of the existence of more than one layer, meaning, use of the word or image.
More and more people start to feel somehow that there is something more than money and prosperity in this life, and that what you see is not always necessarily what it really is. Opening people's eyes and minds is a part of my mission. I am presenting them with new revised realities and meanings, straightening their vague suspicions or strong convictions about the existence of hidden, coded truth and wisdom beyond the surface.
The human figure says it all. Let we hear what it says. It is as always surprising and inspirational.
