Statement of Teaching Philosophy

Teaching philosophy is nothing but the philosophy of the Universe.  The teacher has to provide the continuation of human instruction.  There are natural laws that are older than humanity.  These are the laws of evolution and procreation.  The point is creating, not physical beings, but individuals, modeling characters, and preparing the next generation that will be in charge of the following one, and so on.  This is the spiral of development of our Universe-all that exists is destined to evolve.  It’s like a ladder where each form steps on the shoulders of the previous one in order to be closer to the Sun/God, and serves as a support for the next one.  If someone has received he has to give.  Even if he hasn’t been given anything, he still has to give.  This is an ethical law.  Teaching is a multidirectional interaction.  A teacher gives knowledge at the same time as he receives it.  I teach, but I also learn, which is not a trade, but a natural way that people evolve, get better, become merciful, helpful, wise, etc.  In other words, it helps them to ascend the ladder leading to our Creator.  A teacher gives precious gifts but perhaps receives a more precious one.  It’s exciting, it’s encouraging, it’s inspirational.

Teaching art obeys the same laws, but in my opinion is the most exciting, complex, and important task, especially in the face of our Dehumanized societies.  These are the words of a partial person, who has devoted his life to Art.  There are no borders or limits.  The schematic division of art (visual, performing, etc.) is not acceptable for the searching soul.  One doesn’t have to be a professional artist to live with art, because everyone is a piece of art, living life filled with art.  Making and appreciating art, are gifts which were given to all of us but which, unfortunately, we often ignore.  There is no doubt that art helps people in many ways, and distinguishes them from God’s other creatures, shortening the distance between men and the Creator.  But why should one instruct young people in the finest secrets of visual art?  Because then they will become useful to others as well as becoming useful to themselves.

What characterizes my methodology in art instruction?  The answer is: "Diversity"-diversity of approaches and references, in short, being interdisciplinary.  One must humbly acknowledge that teaching and learning are simultaneous processes, and that diversity and people’s differences are not an obstacle but a gift, that we must prize, explore, and preserve.

It is a well known truth that there are plenty of skillful artists; however, there are very few who have the flare of a born art teacher.  I am one who has this flare, and who can perfectly combine the two devotions of being a good artist and being a good teacher.  Or maybe there is only one possible devotion- to serve people with all our hearts.

I was born to serve people and I would be more than happy to prove it to you.

Vive l’art!
