An
Ending To All Our Days

Part
5: The Second Interlude
The sand was warm underneath their
bodies. Ranma knew that they had been gone for some time, but he wasn't sure
quite how long. With Ryouga, one seemed to lose concepts of trivial things like
time and place. The smooth salty air breezed over him. It was good to enjoy the
ocean as a man for once. The sun was setting in the distance, casting a red hue
over the beach. Bathing them both in the final light of the day, it was
poignant to see a hint of wanting in Ryouga as he looked out across the sea. At
least Ranma could enjoy the ocean as a human. Ryouga was different.
"I'm really glad you talked me into
sticking around for the sunset, it's great," Ranma said.
"Isn't it though. And just when
we get cold in the morning, it'll be time to go," Ryouga said.
"Yeah, that's cool," Ranma
replied.
There was a silence between the two.
The breeze blew the reeds further up the shoreline.
"You know Ranma, you didn't have
to destroy that guys hat," Ryouga said finally.
"Look - I said I'm sorry already.
I've never seen anything like that before. It looked like a small bear eating
his head," Ranma said, spreading his hands.
"Didn't you think it was a little
odd that he didn't MIND having that on?"
"What? I thought he was trying to
play dead. And as I remember, you were pretty quick with the Shi Shi Hokkodon
on the other," He replied.
Ryouga blushed. They looked at each
other and neither could keep a straight face. Laughing, they both shift
positions on their blankets to get some sleep before the sun is completely
down. To the south, Ranma can make out a huge house with a bunch of straight
columns and a triangle roof. It must be huge if Ranma can make it out from
here. These people and their weird looking white ruins. Ranma bet they had big
stautes of old Gods in those buildings too. Nah-that was just too weird.
'Looks more like a temple than a house
anyway. Oh well...' He thought, going to sleep.
