Linda Berman emailed me a list of sayings by Einstein. As I read through them, the one about "Imagination Encircles the World" caught my eye. Actually,
it's only part of the quote, but it seemed to fit the theme of the swap and of
Art in general. I then looked for an image of the Mother Earth on a royalty free clipart website, found one, downloaded it to Photoshop where I inverted it to a "negative space" image that would be easier to carve. I then typed the quote in MS Publisher as word art so that I could get the circle effect with the text...I chose a font that didn't have lots of serifs because I needed it to be, firstly easy to carve since I'm not well-versed at carving letters, and secondly, easy to read. That done, I then imported the text toPhotoshop and added the image of the Earth inside the text...I played around with it until itwas centered enoughfor me, printed it out, covered the back of it with pencil, placed the paper on my carving block and transferred the image to the block by tracing along the lines of the Earth and text. I carved the white space so that Iwould have a negative image to print. I printed the image using a large rainbow colored ink pad (Northern Lights) on blue parchment text weight paper... I thought the paper would lend the "feel" of clouds covering the "earth" part of the Earth. :o) I hope you like it. I have enjoyed carving it!
