Supplies Needed: Crochet Cotton Thread
Crochet Hooks, size 8 and 3

1 shank button for fastener

NOTE: Using a larger hook for the first chain keeps the piece from curling. Before selecting buttons, make sure the holes are large enough to accomodate the insertion of the size 3 hook. For another method, all the buttons may be threaded onto the thread before starting to crochet. Pre-threading requires a random button pattern or you may have to figure out each button before you thread it.
ABBREVIATIONS: ch = chain
sc = single crochetROW 1: With size 8 hook, Chain 200, turn.
ROW 2: With size 3 hook, 1 sc in 10th ch from hook (for buttonhole), sc in next 40 ch
TO ADD A BUTTON: Insert the hook through the button, pull up a loop of thread and pull it all the way through the loop of thread already on the hook. Chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, 1 sc in each of next 5 chain sts of row 1. (2-button loop)
Chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, 1 sc in each of next 5 chain sts of row 1. (3-button loop)
Chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3 add button, chain 3, 1 sc in each of next 5 chain sts in row 1. (4-button loop)
Chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, add button, chain 3, 1 sc in each of next 5 chain sts on row 1. (5-button loop)
Repeat the 5-button loop until there are 15 of them, then make another 4-button, 3-button, 2-button loop.
After the last loop, make 1 sc in each of the remaining chain sts on row 1.
Break off the thread, leaving a tail long enough to tie a shank button onto. Tie the button on and trim the thread.
