Silk Flower Sachet Bag

sachet pic

    This sachet bag is made
in a style similar to the
    shadow-quilting method
in which the color comes from a silk flower sandwiched between sheer fabric fabrics. This project is a beautiful way to use up scraps of fabric. The sachet bag makes a wonderful shower favor.

small silk flower
2- 5"x 9"pieces sheer fabric
1-5"x 9" piece of Satin-like fabric
1/2 yard of matching ribbon
small pearls or beads
needle and matching thread
potpourri
scissors

Draw a rectangle on a piece of paper to measure 5" by 7".
Center a piece of sheer fabric over the rectangle, such as organza or bridal mist.
Remove flower petal and leaves you wish to use from the silk flower.
Arrange them on the lower half of the sheer fabric.
Lightly place the second layer of sheer fabric over the first with the flowers sandwiched in between.
Pin the silk flowers into place so that they will not shift.
Using a running stitch.. take small stitches around the petals and leaves. Stitch tiny pearls or seed beads around and on the flower.

Place the sheer piece of facric right-side-up on top of the right-side of the satin.
Baste the side edges together.
Fold the piece in half, right-sides-together, and stitch all the layers together along the side seams, leaving the top edge open.
Turn the piece right-side-out.
Trim the top edge with scissors or pinking shears.
Fill 2/3 full with potpouri and tie the ribbon around the neck of the sachet.
