OK, I'll admit
it, I got the soundtrack for the Manson song, "Golden Years", a cover of
the David Bowie classic. On this count, I was not dissappointed,
it stands head and shoulders above most the disc, with a few exceptions.
Those exceptions are
"Super BonBon", the minor hit for Soul Coughing(a group that has been growing
on me in the past few weeks), remixed by Brit-techno-ists PropellerHeads,
and "I Only Want to Be With You", a cover done by Twiggy Ramirez and supermodel
Twiggy(yes, that Twiggy). The PropellerHeads remix, at first annoyed the
hell out of me, but the more I listened to it, the more it impressed me.
It adds a hard edge to the original, and retains the catchiness inherent
as well. As for the Twiggy and Twiggy cover, it really has a eerie
quality to it, and brings a hard edge to this classic song.
The rest of the
album is filled with brainless Mtv alterna-schlok, featuring Creed, etc.,
etc., they all sound the same. If the rest of this album had been
as good or intriguing as the standout tracks, it would have gotten a much
better review, but alas, it only got a four.
